ATP Tokyo. Hubert Hurkacz wins and supports flood victims. “It’s amazing how Poles unite” – Sport

Hurkacz returned to play after a break of almost a month. It was also his first match without his previous coach. The tennis player from Wrocław parted ways with American Craig Boynton after many years of cooperation.

The opening match of the tournament in Tokyo was not easy – “Hubi” had some problems with his opponent in each set – the biggest in the second set, which Giron unexpectedly won. The Pole is happy with his performance on the court, though.

– I played a really good match. We had some time to practice before the tournament, but we are still looking for an additional person to join the team. I managed to serve a few aces – for each one I donate 100 euros to help the flood victims. I wanted to thank everyone for their support for the flood victims. It’s amazing how Poles unite in difficult situations – he emphasized.

This was Hurkacz’s third match with Giron in the elite series. The Pole lost a set for the first time, having previously won the quarterfinals of this year’s edition of the tournament in Halle and in 2021 at the Grand Slam Wimbledon.

Hurkacz’s next opponent will be either Briton Jack Draper or Italian Mattia Bellucci.
