The first Masters 1000 of the season will take place in Miami from March 23 to April 4 and the least we can say is that drastic measures will be applied during the tournament. Of course, spectators will be present, but only up to 20% of the stadium’s usual capacity. Thus, the organization of the tournament reduced the Prize money by 80%! Roger Federer and Karolina Pliskova, both winners of the 2019 edition, had each pocketed $ 1.354 million. This year, the prize pool will amount to $ 300,110, or more than four times less! The total Prize money goes from 16.7 to 3.34 million dollars! This amount could however change if the number of authorized supporters changes.
The players will not be quarantined as at the Australian Open but will have to obtain a special authorization to enter the country (National Interest Exemption). Players will be tested upon arrival and will then be required to self-isolate in their hotel room until they receive a negative result.
