ATP: Medvedev new dolphin of Djokovic

For the first time since its creation in 1973, no American appears Monday in the Top 30 of the ATP ranking, where Daniil Medvedev takes 2nd place in the world from Rafael Nadal, eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Masters 1000 in Madrid.

The first American in the standings, Taylor Fritz, loses one place this week (31st). This decline reflects the decline of the United States, which is the country with the most number 1 players in the world (Jimmy Connors, John McEnroe, Jim Courier, Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi, Andy Roddick), but no longer had representative at the top of men’s tennis since early 2004. The German Alexander Zverev, winner Sunday in Madrid – he had not won in Masters 1000 for three years – consolidates his 6th place. He remained on three defeats in the final in this category of tournaments the most important after those of the Grand Slam, in Rome in 2018, in Shanghai in 2019, and in Paris in 2020. The other finalist, the Italian Matteo Berrettini, climbs him one place, 9th in the world.

As for French players, Gaël Monfils remains the No. 1 tricolor, 15th in the world.
