After the Australian fortnight which saw Novak Djokovic lift a ninth trophy in Melbourne, the tennis season continues with the tournaments in Montpellier, Cordoba and Singapore, which take place this week. For his part, the world number 1 has announced that it will take a few weeks to recover. Roger Federer will make his return to competition on Monday March 8 at the Doha tournament, after a year of inactivity. This long period off the field can lead us to wonder about the level that will be his, at 39, when he resumes. Swiss tennis expert Heinz Gunthardt, former coach, spoke to the German site Day indicator and thinks it will be a big challenge for the Maestro:
« It will be one of the biggest challenges you have ever seen in tennis, there is no doubt. Two or three factors need to come together. He needs to move well, gain self-confidence, including his body. It’s also clear that he won’t be in great shape from the first game, but that’s not the main issue. The big question is whether he will move well in the field. It should serve well ».
