ATP confirms final suspension of Auckland and New York in 2021

EL NUEVO DIARIO, MADRID.- The Association of Professional Tennis Players (ATP) confirmed this Tuesday through an official statement the definitive suspension of the Auckland and New York tournaments, which will not finally be played in 2021.

In addition, he announced that the tournament in Pune (India) will not be held in February as planned, while the one in Rio de Janeiro will not be played in the same month. For both, alternative dates will be evaluated.

The rest of the dates for the tournaments scheduled in the first eight weeks of the year will remain as they were. Thus, Delray Beach and Antalya will be held between January 5 and 13; Doha between January 10 and 13; Melbourne 1 and Melbourne 2 between January 31 and February 6; the ATP Cup between February 1 and 5; and the Australian Open from February 8-21.

Andrea Gaudenzi, president of the ATP, assured that the “reconfigured” schedule for the start of the 2021 season represents “an enormous effort” of collaboration in tennis under “challenging circumstances.

“We have been able to adapt and create an exciting start to the season. Health and safety will continue to be paramount as we navigate the challenges ahead and I want to thank everyone involved for their commitment to finding solutions for the start of the 2021 season, ”Gaudenzi said.
