ATP – Cincinnati > Tiafoe after qualifying for the semi-finals: “I’m not trying to be like those guys who reach 700. Like Murray for example. I’m definitely not going to get there. But if I could reach 500, that would be pretty cool”

Frances Tiafoe is an amazing player. Capable of the best and the worst, the American showed us this week in Cincinnati what he can do best, and qualified for the semi-finals, taking advantage of Hubert Hurkacz’s retirement at the end of the first set.

Asked after the match about his current form, Tiafoe admitted that he was happy to be back on winning terms, but that he did not have the ambition to achieve as many victories in his career as legends such as Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal or Andy Murray have achieved.

“Guys that get to 500 wins can say they had a really good career. I’m not trying to be like those guys that get to 700. I’m definitely not going to get there. But if I could get to 500, that would be pretty cool. It’s been a tough year, man, it’s been a tough year. Yeah, since my US Open (2023) run, I haven’t won four in a row since then, so… yeah, it’s been tough but I’m in a different place in my life right now. I’m happy with everything that’s coming my way. I’m me no matter what, I know who I am, so yeah, I’m just enjoying the journey, enjoying the process and trying to be better than I was yesterday.”
