Atomic Heart 67GB Update Makes Fans Wonder Why Preload Was Even Necessary

Players are experiencing a 67 GB update for Atomic Heart, which is required immediately after the first download of the game – even if you pre-downloaded it.

After today’s release of Atomic Heart, new players are feeling a little awkward trying to launch the game, especially those who have made the effort to pre-load the game prior to release. In case you didn’t know, players were able to pre-download the shooter from February 19th on Xbox and PlayStation (but not on PC), but it didn’t do them much good.

A search on the Xbox Series X subreddit reveals a lot of frustrated gamers who are about to finally dive into the game, but are faced with yet another download that could take another hour or more. One Reddit user summed it up quite well: “Why did I bother to pre-download it?”. Many agreed with this comment, with one user in the same thread adding “67 GB download is way too much even for a decent internet connection!”.

A similar story happened on Twitter, where several Xbox players shared screenshots of the big update in disbelief. “What is this 67 GB ‘upgrade’? It’s like downloading the whole game again?!” – wrote one of the users, sharing a photo where he had 1 hour 11 minutes left before the full download.

It’s not unusual for a game like this to require an update on day one, but not this size. Back at the release of God of War Ragnarok, players were asked to download a 745MB patch that fixed over 150 bugs. The same can be said for Red Dead Redemption 2’s Day 1 Update, which only took 3 GB of space and introduced a number of “final fixes, bugs and omissions”.
