A new day has now dawned in Puglia, Italy, but the events of the day before (read: pool-gate) have not yet been forgotten or forgiven. Nicole is disappointed in Martijn and feels ‘very alone’. According to the brand new bride, their marriage can no longer be glued. “He was very clear yesterday about the fact that he absolutely does not see any matches and really wants to go home.”
“I’m still flabbergasted and very hurt,” Nicole continues. “I still wonder what exactly is going on. Whatever is going on can never be so big in one morning that you give up everything. Whatever it is, I don’t think it’s reason enough to give up so early in the experiment.”
Although Martijn has almost thrown in the towel, Nicole is still open to a conversation with expert Patrick van Veen – who has come all the way to Italy to assist the couple. “I think it’s all so unfair,” she tells him. The worst thing for Nicole is that she didn’t get a chance and still doesn’t understand what went wrong. “He’s trying to save face for TV or something. He suddenly wants to talk to me without a camera, I’m not sure what he wants.”
Martijn tells his side of the story a little later. “We are quite different in a number of areas. Then that is quite hard to pronounce.” Although he feels his words hit Nicole hard, he is proud of himself for speaking them. “She’s a beautiful woman. From the moment she came in. A beautiful person inside. Only some people… it’s my feeling. I stated in the beginning: I’m not going to make any more concessions. So I thought it was pretty of me that I indicated my feeling in the pool. From: I don’t want to bottle that up, because then I will give myself a different role. Or hand in. So I indicated it very nicely. And that was poorly received, just say it wrong. “
