The “Bancomat” context appears to be undergoing great transformation: the term began to “circulate” in our country starting from the 1980s, and also for this reason the word “ATM” is absolutely associated with electronic payments but also withdrawals . Since this is a form of management and “movement” of money that makes use of traceable systems, it is preferable by the Italian state, which has always been committed to defeating deep-rooted and famous problems such as tax evasion and money laundering. The act of withdrawing, now practically known to everyone, could soon become something “ancient”.
ATM, when can you no longer withdraw? Here is the date
This is because the complex system behind all electronic money “disfavors” the cash system, and therefore the sense of constantly withdrawing appears to be a sort of “missed priority”. Fewer and fewer banks across Europe are investing as much money as possible in digitization to foster the concept of home bankingalso because the current context provides for the gradual disposal of physical banks, usually deeply rooted throughout the territory but in decline for years.
Important credit institutions such as Banca BPER and ING have already started the policy of divesting branches and ATMs for some time, indeed ING has already ceased physical activity in Italy since 2021 to focus exclusively on digital services, in fact customers must necessarily withdraw cash at other ATMs.
Even the concept of interchange fee, that is the “fixed rate” that is applied precisely when withdrawing from banks that are not “own” is destined to change: Bancomat SpA has in fact made a request to abrogate this fixed fee which is currently equal at 49 cents, as this amount is too low to manage costs.
In general, however, we will have to get used to not using ATMs so often, compared to the current environment.
