Würzburg, Kitzingen, Schweinfurt, Bad Neustadt – Sparkasse branches are disappearing everywhere. The reason given for this is, among other things, the shift of business to the Internet. At the end of 2020, 14 branches were closed in Main-Spessart alone. Retzbach and three other places were hit comparatively mildly: There are no longer any staff there, but there are still self-service machines (SB).
Now the Retzbacher savings bank machine has moved from its previous central location on the main street to the Lidl car park on the Güßgraben in the commercial area. There, customers can, among other things, withdraw money, print out account statements and make transfers. The savings bank announced this via the newsletter of the market town of Zellingen and with a poster at the old location. In addition, the press office of the Sparkasse Mainfranken Würzburg reported on request that the customers from Retzbach and Retzstadt had been informed in a personal letter last week.
Criticism: The new machine at the Lidl car park is not easily accessible for everyone
The savings bank explains its decision to relocate with the advantages of the location near several supermarkets and the intersection of the B27. The bank assumes that the new self-service branch will be used more in the future because it is easier to reach and offers more parking. On the one hand, it can be used by Retzbach residents on the way to work or to go shopping, but also by customers from surrounding towns such as Retzstadt, Himmelstadt or Thüngen.
Herbert Auer from Retzbach, however, criticizes in a letter to this editorial team that sick and elderly people are not taken into account. There is no “social contribution” for these people. Because of the heavy traffic on the adjacent B27, they would not be able to reach the new location on their own. Those affected needed their children or grandchildren to get to the new ATM by car. He writes resignedly: “All the citizens of Retzbach are simply presented with facts here.”

Sparkasse recommends switching to other offers
Every relocation of a location means that the way for some customers is longer, writes Sparkasse spokesman Stefan Hebig. “We can therefore understand the individual criticism of those affected, but we also ask for your understanding of our decision.” As an alternative to the machine in Retzbach and online banking, which poses challenges for some senior citizens, he points to the staffed branch in Zellingen, the cash delivery service and the telephone customer service. The latter can be reached Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on 0931 3820.
