Atlus discusses Shin Megami Tensei V and their future fantasy RPG

It is a tradition in the columns of Famitsu : each year, the Japanese magazine approaches a hundred Japanese developers to talk about their ambitions for the coming year and share their wishes. Atlus played along and dropped some meager information on future projects.

Patience, patience

Don’t expect shocking revelations. However, three creators have confided, starting with Shinjirou Takata, producer, who tells us about the next Shin Megami Tensei. He explains that development is progressing well. Yes, just like the wishes of previous years, in 2018 and 2019: “So about Shin Megami Tensei V… we’re working hard on the development to make it an even better title. You will wait a little longer, but look forward to it ”.

Famitsu also asked him his keyword for 2021 which is “sgo off the beaten track “. A keyword that differs from Katsura Hashino, director and producer, in particular on the series Person, which advocates the ” Silence “For 2021. Assigned to an ambitious new RPG, the creator implies that we should not expect an announcement of it, or at least a release in 2021:

“With the pandemic causing rapid changes around the world, all we can do is continue to focus on our work. Our title in development is going through an important phase and we want to face it in order to offer the world an interesting gameplay ”. He also adds: “I would like to announce the title that we are developing as soon as possible. We have created contemporary dramas before but please look forward to the fantasy RPG we are preparing ”.

Patience seems to be the watchword, although from here these beautiful projects, we will be entitled to Persona 5 Strikers. Kazuhisa Wada, who works on the franchise Person (and notably officiates as a creative producer on the latter), discusses plans for the 25th anniversary: “My project is progressing slowly. Thank you all, the Persona series will be celebrating its 25th anniversary! We have some exciting projects in the works, so please be patient. “

Wada-san also talks about the complicated and unpredictable year 2020. For next year, he explains that he would like “Calmly identify what to do”. He too therefore implies a year 2021 of preparation, of transition, which suggests that we will have to wait a little longer before Atlus’ future projects materialize. We still hope for the arrival of Shin Megami Tensei V before the end of 2021, as we had been promised a few months ago.
