Athletic Tucuman failed in their attempt to become strong at home and ended up losing 2-4 to Belgrano on matchday 15 of the Professional LeagueOn a stifling day, with temperatures of 33° that weighed on the province, the set pieces became a real headache for the Decano, who wasted a valuable opportunity to get closer to Vélez, the leader of the tournament. In contrast, the Pirata managed to cut a streak of eight games without a win, including its recent elimination in the Copa Sudamericana against Athletico Paranaense.
The match at the José Fierro was intense from the start. Atlético, needing to add points after the tough defeat against River, had the mission of not losing track of Vélez. However, the situation quickly became complicated. Barely 9 minutes in, Belgrano took the lead thanks to a header from Aníbal Leguizamón, who connected with a precise cross from Juan Velázquez, putting the match uphill for the home team from the start.
Far from losing heart, Atlético Tucumán tried to react. Although Belgrano dominated the ball in the middle and created danger on the wings, Facundo Sava’s team managed to get close to the rival goal. The most controversial play of the first half came with a handball by Facundo Quignón inside the Belgrano area, which was ignored by both referee Darío Herrera and the VAR, unleashing the fury of the fans in the stadium.
Despite the controversy, the Dean did not give up and managed to tie the game in the 35th minute. Mateo Bajamich, after an assist from Renzo Tesuri, shot at the near post and beat the visiting goalkeeper to make it 1-1. However, the joy was short-lived. In stoppage time, another defensive lapse allowed Facundo Quignón, with an accurate header after a cross from González Metilli, to give Belgrano the lead again before the break.
In the second half, Atlético’s hopes of a comeback quickly faded. After 10 minutes, Uvita Fernández sealed the match – one might say – with an excellent right-footed finish. Despite the Decano’s attempts to turn things around with several substitutions, Belgrano controlled the game and knew how to protect its advantage. However, towards the end of the match, two goals appeared: first Bajamich scored for the home team, establishing the discount. Although a minute later, Pablo Chavarría established the definitive advantage for Belgrano by pushing in a pass from Bryan Reyna, ensuring a victory that took it out of its bad streak.
With this result, Belgrano has 21 points in the tournament, while Atlético Tucumán remains with 25. In the next match, the Pirata will receive Boca on Saturday at 8 pm at the Gigante de Alberdi, while the Decano will visit Argentinos Juniors on Monday 30 at 7 pm.
