Atletico Madrid succeeded in capturing his guest Valencia with a score of 2-0. This result made Los Colchoneros shift Barcelona from third position LaLiga standings.
In the match which was held at Civitas Metropolitano, Monday (29/1/2024) early morning WIB, Atletico tried to continue their unbeaten record at home.
Playing aggressively from the first minute, Atletico put pressure on Valencia, who only had 46 percent ball possession. Atletico released a total of 12 attempts, eight of which were on goal.
Meanwhile, Valencia was only given the opportunity to make three attempts on target out of a total of 10. Even though they were dominant, Atletico had difficulty breaking into Valencia’s goal in the first half.
Twice the chance Antoine Griezmann Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili was able to break it. But Mamardashvili’s toughness collapsed in the fourth minute of first half injury time.
Griezmann’s breakthrough pass which managed to split the Valencia defense was followed by Samuel Lino with a powerful kick towards the goal, which Mamardashvili was unable to block.
After winning 1-0, Atletico doubled their lead in the 57th minute through Memphis Depay. Memphis headed Nahuel Molina’s cross and the ball nestled in the corner of the goal.

This was the second goal in Memphis’ last two games as a starter. No more goals were scored until the end of the match and Atletico had the right to move up to third in the standings. LaLiga with 44 points from 21 matches, moving Barcelona to fourth place with the same points but losing on goal difference.
Despite moving up to third place, Valencia is still 11 points behind Girona at the top. Valencia is in eighth position with 32 points.
