Real Madrid lost their leadership position in the Spanish championship after one day. Atletico Madrid won 2-1 (1-0) in Alaves on Sunday and are now two points ahead of Real. After losing points, the difference between the city rivals is even eight points, because Atletico still has two games to catch up. In the evening game, FC Barcelona celebrated a 1-0 (1-0) win at bottom Huesca.
Atletico played in the Basque Country for the last half hour after a red card against an outnumbered Alaves player. Nevertheless, the Madrilenians had to accept the equalizer after 84 minutes with an own goal by Brazilian defender Felipe. Luis Suarez managed the correction to 2-1 in the 90th minute.
Barcelona also only narrowly prevailed after two draws in the last three games at bottom Huesca despite clear dominance. Frenkie de Jong scored the goal after a pass from Lionel Messi after just under half an hour (27th). Despite slightly better results in recent weeks, Barca are fifth, 13 loss points behind Atletico.
