Atlético de Madrid honors the Double and Calderón in their new kits

MADRID, 5 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Atlético de Madrid, current champion of LaLiga Santander, presented its new four kits for the 2021-22 season this Monday, in which it celebrates the 75th anniversary of the current name of the club with memories of the 1996 Double or the old Vicente Calderón .

On January 1, 1947, the Club Atlético-Aviación changed its name to Club Atlético de Madrid, a change that was accompanied by an evolution in the shield, in which the representative wings of Spanish aviation disappeared.

The first kit is inspired by some details of the first red-and-white jersey worn by the players in 1947, already under the name of Club Atlético de Madrid. In that elastic, a central white stripe that is recovered in this new design stood out; in addition, a huge letter A is formed on the front with the central red stripes.

The away kit is inspired by the second shirt worn by the protagonists of the historic 1996 League and Cup Double. Dark blue and red are combined to remind fans of Kiko, Pantic, Caminero, Simeone, Vizcaíno or Solozábal.

The Vicente Calderón stadium, red and white home for 50 years, will also be honored in the third kit, as it combines the colors of the Vicente Calderón seats: red, white and blue, as well as including an image of the stadium on the inside of the neck.

To complete the tribute, a red kit inspired by two historical moments has also been launched: the first leg of the semifinal of the European Cup played on April 10, 1974 against Celtic in Glasgow and the final of the Cup of the King of 1985 against Athletic Club. This shirt will feature the shield that accompanied the change of name from Atlético Aviación to Atlético de Madrid on January 1, 1947 along with the slogan ’75 years honoring your name ‘in the central part.

Nike will once again dress the mattresses with a shirt that seeks the least impact on the environment, with 100% recycled polyester made from plastic bottles, which reduces carbon emissions by up to 30% compared to normal polyester.
