Axel Witsel will soon be appearing in his new work clothes for the first time. The 33-year-old Belgian’s move to Atletico Madrid is nearing completion.
“There is practically nothing missing, but you know that things are going slowly in the palace,” said Atletico club president Enrique Cerezo in an AS interview. “We have to wait a few more days or a few weeks and I think it will be settled then.”
On paper, Witsel is still under contract with Borussia Dortmund for a few days, but BVB will not extend the expiring contract. Ultimately, Witsel had become too old and too expensive to maintain for the black and yellow.

Axel Witsel “almost finished”
According to Cerezo, Atletico are also looking for a new right-back before the club boss talks about Witsel again: “We already have a new midfielder. It’s Witsel, with whom, as you all know, the deal is almost complete is.”
Belgium’s World Cup participants and Atletico are said to have agreed some time ago on a one-year contract with an option to extend it by one season. Witsel played 143 competitive games in four BVB years.
