Atlantic Airways is establishing a new air route between Vágar in the Faroe Islands and New York.
Atlantic Airways, the national airline of the Faroe Islands, inaugurated its new route between the Faroe Islands and New York on Tuesday August 22, 2023. On this occasion, Jóhanna á Bergi, Chairman and CEO of Atlantic Airways, was on board this highly anticipated first flight.
This seasonal route, initiated before the pandemic, confirms the company’s ambitions to continue its expansion and responds to very strong local demand. Atlantic Airways is now operating 1 weekly rotation for the next 7 weeks.

New connection with Vágar in the Faroe Islands
Vágar International Airport (FAE) was decked out for the occasion and passengers were welcomed at the boarding gate with typically North American specialties to celebrate the event. On board the aircraft, the first travelers were also able to benefit from various attentions that marked this inaugural flight.
This first flight, lasting 6 hours 08 minutes, took off at 5:44 p.m. (local time) from Vágar Airport and landed at 6:52 p.m. (local time) at Stewart International Airport (SWF) in New York. Located 90 minutes from New York, Stewart International Airport, on a human scale, has the advantage of offering extremely short waiting times, particularly for immigration formalities.
This new direct connection is provided by an Airbus A320neo, a latest generation aircraft, offering a capacity of 174 seats. Travelers can also improve their on-board experience by ordering a meal at least 24 hours before flight departure on the company’s website. Atlantic Airways now offers 4 new menus dedicated to its North American route, designed to highlight New York gastronomy. An on-board snack is always available for purchase.
