Atlanta pulls to a 2-2 tie against disconnected NYCFC

Dom Dwyer scored in the 86th minute to give Atlanta United a 2-2 draw on Sunday, a result that extended New York City’s winless streak to four games in the MLS since Nick Cushing replaced Ronny Delia as manager.

Argentine striker Valentin Castellanos scored in the 39th and 58th minutes for NYC (8-4-5) to tie Dallas’ Jesus Ferreira at the top of the MLS scoring charts with 10 goals.

Dwyer tied Atlanta (5-7-5) on a pass from Mexican attacker Ronaldo Cisneros.

Delia guided NYC to its first MLS title last season, then left on June 13 to manage club Standard Liege of Belgium. Since then, NYC has lost to Philadelphia and tied with ColoradoCincinnati and Atlanta.

United also scored through Josef Martinez, the Venezuelan’s fifth league goal this season.

Both teams play next Saturday. NYCFC hosts the New England Revolution, and United plays at home against Austin.

En Foxborough, MassachusettsBrazilian Brenner scored for Cincinnati in a 2-2 draw with the Revolution.

Brenner tied the game for Cincinnati (7-7-4) in the 77th minute, assisted by Argentina’s Luciano Acosta.

Also Argentine Gustavo Bou and Colombian Dylan Borrero scored a goal each for the cause of the Revolution (6-5-7).

In St. Paul, Minnesota, Paraguayan forward Luis Amarilla scored the decisive goal in Minnesota United’s 3-2 victory over Real Salt Lake.

Amarilla’s game-winning goal came in the 61st minute to put United (7-8-3) up 3-0. The Argentine Emanuel Reynoso had an assist on the goal.

United also got two goals from Reynoso.

Venezuelan winger Jefferson Savarino and Ecuadorian midfielder Anderson Julio each scored a goal for RSL (8-5-5).

In other results, Dutch goalkeeper Eloy Room saved three shots for the Columbus Crew and Andre Blake saved four for the Philadelphia Union in a scoreless draw.

Jaroslaw Niezgoda scored the tying goal for the Portland Timbers in a 2-2 draw against Nashville.

The Timbers also scored through Colombian forward Dairon Asprilla.

An Andre Shinyashiki goal lifted Charlotte FC to a 2-1 victory over the Houston Dynamo.

Fafa Picault discounted for the Dynamo (6-9-3).

New York Red Bulls beat Sporting Kansas City 1-0; The San Jose Earthquakes defeated the Chicago Fire 2-1.
