An eight-year-old girl was shot in Atlanta, Georgia. The child was in a car with his mother and a friend at the time of the incident, the police said.

The mother’s friend wanted to drive into a parking lot on Saturday evening when a group of armed men approached the vehicle and blocked the entrance, it said. Several shots were fired at the vehicle from the group. The child was fatally injured and, according to the police, later died in a hospital.
Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms called for justice for the girl’s death at a press conference. She said at least two people fired shots at the car and asked witnesses to help clarify the fact.

“You shot a child”
According to the “Atlanta Journal Constitution”, Bottoms also addressed the perpetrators in the press conference. “You shot a child and killed it,” she said accordingly.
The scene of the crime is near the fast food restaurant before which Black Rayshard Brooks was killed in a police operation in mid-June. Since then, the site has been occupied by demonstrators who, according to the police, are said to have built barricades on the streets. Such a barrier had bypassed the dead child’s mother before the crime, it said.
