Atlanta Braves | New Achilles tendon injury for Mike Soroka

(Atlanta) Atlanta Braves right-hander Mike Soroka is due to undergo surgery that will likely end his season as he once again tears his right Achilles tendon.

The Braves said Saturday that Soroka suffered the injury Thursday as he walked into the Truist Park shelter, where he was continuing his rehabilitation while the team was in Cincinnati.

The Calgary native will be undergoing a third Achilles tendon surgery. The intervention will be performed in the next week.

Soroka, the Braves starter in the 2020 season opener, suffered a first Achilles tendon tear during the August 3 game against the New York Mets, ending his season. A first step back in May forced him to go back under the knife.

He was working to make a comeback this season when the new injury occurred, confirmed by a magnetic resonance imaging test.

Soroka proved to be a cornerstone of the Braves’ rotation in 2019, when he was 13-4 with an earned-run average of 2.68. The Canadian carved out a place in the All-Star game, before finishing second in the National Rookie Rookie and sixth for the Cy-Young.
