And she did! Heptathlete Lindsey Flach (31) will take part in the US Trials – the elimination competitions for the Olympic Games – at the weekend, unless anything special. But one fact is quite remarkable: the American is not starting alone, she is 18 weeks pregnant!

Background: The now 31-year-old actually wanted to end her career after the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo and start a family. But the pandemic and the related postponement of the Olympics thwarted her plans – and she became pregnant even before she could even participate.
However, the athlete really wanted to say goodbye with a competition.“My main concern was to make sure that I and the baby are healthy,” says Flach, “Yahoo Sports”. Her pregnancy was “very hard” at the beginning: “I had bad nausea for about 12 weeks, which impaired my training.”

But Flax’s doctor finally gives her the green light for her last heptathlon. She has to stop the 800 m run prematurely at 40 degrees (“It was so difficult to get off the track, but I had no choice because I knew I had to look after my baby”), but she did it can pervade other disciplines.
The qualification for Tokyo no longer plays a role …
Other top athletes also took part in competitions while pregnant. Example: Tennis star Serena Williams (39) won the Australian Open in 2017 when she was two months pregnant!
