Baptiste Mischler broke his personal 1500m record by more than two seconds to reach the Olympic minima in 3’34 ”30, Thursday evening in Marseille. A course and a stopwatch that take him into another dimension.
In the Provençal heat, he achieved his feat at the very moment when, at home, in Brumath, his parents were in the oven and in the mill on and around the track. A brand new track named after Hubert Steinmetz, Baptiste’s mentor, who left almost a year ago. Quite a symbol.
Shortly after, his brother Timothée won his 1500m in 3’53 ”00, and Julia, his sister, took part in the 800m won by Obernoise Marilou Burckhardt, in only 2’18” 29, the fault at a too slow first lap.
The evening ended in the rain, which did not prevent Nathan Guerbeur, in 8’14 ”12, to establish the 10e French performance of the year over 3000 m.

The other nice lap times were set by Caroline El Himer, still there, even without a license and without competition over 1500 m (4’34 ”91), by Latifa Mokhtari (ANA / SGW), 10’07” 40 over 3000 m, by Stéphanie Seel (ANA / FCH), 57 ”04 over 400 m, and by Gaston Rohmer (SRO). The Obernois cadet swallowed everyone in the straight line and descended for the first time under two minutes over 800 m (1’58 ”60).
Jeff better than Theo
Beforehand, therefore, Jeff Erius had beaten Théo Schaub in a 200 m gala (21 ”17 against 21” 29), but disputed in average conditions, after the storm. “I’m still doing my RP (personal best), so the performance suits me, even if I was hoping to do better,” conceded the young Racing sprinter. “The clock is not necessarily horrible, even if we aimed better,” replied the Illzachois. “I came back to the straight line, but I missed a little potato in the last ten meters. “
