Kajsa Bergqvist took over as captain of the national gymnastics team in 2021. Her contract expired after the Olympics in Paris, but now it is clear that there will be a new four years for the high jumping star was there before. The new agreement extends beyond the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
– I have had this job for three years, and now that it has been extended, you can say that it will be half time for me. I feel excited and eager to build on what we have started, she says.
The Norwegian Athletics Federation is extending the agreement after the successful Olympics in Paris. Sweden won eleven medals, four of them gold, which is Sweden’s best number of medals in a summer Olympics since Sydney 2000.
2025 will be an interesting year. In March, both an indoor EC in the Netherlands and an indoor toilet in China are waiting.
– Swedish Athletics will continue to deliver and it feels like there is even more to watch. We want to be part of the fight for the top positions at every tournament and the goal is to have even more of that result, says Bergqvist.
