The two Belarusian Olympic leaders who tried to force the athlete Kristina Timanovskaya to fly home from Tokyo will now be investigated by the International Athletics Federation (WA). The decision has been taken in consultation with the International Olympic Committee.
The 24-year-old sprinter was taken, against her will, to the airport in Tokyo after criticizing her coach about why she was selected in the relay team in the 4×400 meters. She refused to board the flight that would take her home to Belarus and instead sought protection from the Japanese police.
Timanovskaya then received a visa to Poland, where she now lives and intends to continue her athletics career.
The two leaders were kicked out of the Olympics.
