In Caen, during a contest disrupted by rain, the member of the Entente Athlétique Grenoble 38 soared to 5.75 meters to win his second national gold medal.
As expected, it was with Renaud Lavillenie that Thibaut Collet had to fight to the end. The Clermontois also crossed 5.75 meters, but with more tries on the clock. Before losing to the upper bar at 5.80 m three times, thus offering the title to the youngest of the Collet siblings (Mathieu failed three times on his first bar at 5.30 meters). Young Anthony Ammirati (Fayence, 5.70m) finished third in the competition.
Having achieved the European and world minima, Thibaut Collet should be selected for Eugene (in July) and Munich (in August). Renaud Lavillenie also already had the minimums.
