Silver in the 60m and 200m, and gold in the 4×200m relay: the Junior of the Caen Athletic Club (CAC), Mohammed Badru, brings back three medals from the last French Cadets-Juniors Championships which were held this weekend of February 19 and 20, 2022, in Nantes.
Mohammed Badru “I am able to have been able to do what I was able to do in training and to have been able to put in place what I wanted on a technical level. I am satisfied with the pleasure I took. All athletes are fighting for the gold medal and this year the competition was fierce. My 200m frustrates me. Especially the stopwatch, but I resumed training very late. I was not running as I intended. These three medals were not won in advance. The pleasure was not there and, before the competition, I was not in the top 3 of its best runners.
I understood that everything does not work physically or investment but that there must also be a mental, psychological approach that allows to understand the pressure related to these major events. I like the relay. This is the discipline on which I have the most feelings. This gold medal with a team that I really like is a great joy and a real pride. After the French Elite Championships this weekend, where the objective will be to further improve my times, I will be preparing a lot for great things during the summer season »
On the length, the revenge of Grégoire Villain
Arrived this winter at the CAC from Bayard Argentan, Grégoire Villain is adorning himself with silver in the length competition. A year after taking bronze at the French Indoor Championships in Miramas.
Gregoire Villain : “Bat, my first try did not give me confidence. Of all the French Championships in which I participated, I only succeeded in one. That of last year, with a bronze medal, before chaining several counter-performances. I panicked but my second try, at 7m19, placed me well in the contest. The pressure is down. So much so that, on the following jumps, I began to disperse. I was no longer really focused but my coach reframed me. I was then able to chain a test at 7m26 and another at 7m18 even if I was hoping for a better distance.
My recent performances did not allow me to qualify for the French Elite Championships. So I’m going to start my preparation for the next summer season which should allow me to improve even further. When I arrived at the CAC, I was afraid of not fitting in, of not getting used to my new coach and my new working methods. I see in these medals the sign that the work accomplished for several years has not been done for nothing”
