– It means a lot. I am a world record holder and winning gold in a championship is a great feeling. Setting a world record makes it even better, says Bol to SVT Sport.
Bol had training partner Lieke Klaver right behind him on the lap. Klaver hung on until the last corner before Bol pulled away.
Klaver secured second place by running in 50.16 and hugged Bol immediately after the finish.
World record two weeks ago
Bol knows that she has her strong point in the second half of the race.
– It’s not as easy as you seem to think, but it’s good if it looks easy, smiles Bol.
Two weeks ago, Bol set a world record by running 49.24 at home in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands. Even then, Klaver, who constantly has to stand in the shadow of Bol, was second.
