Frankfurt/Main (dpa) – The former European triple jump champion Max Hess has broken his collarbone and will have to do without the European Championships in Munich next week. As the German Athletics Association announced on Tuesday, the 26-year-old from Chemnitz will be out for several weeks after a necessary operation. “It’s particularly bitter because he’s just getting going again,” said his coach Harry Marusch. Hess had won gold at the European Championships in Amsterdam in 2016.
