Athletics 2-0 White Sox Game Summary (Sep. 13, 2024)

CHICAGO (AP) — Rookie Brady Basso pitched five-hit ball into the sixth inning for his first major league win, and the Oakland Athletics sent the Chicago White Sox to their 16th straight home loss with a 2-0 victory Friday night.

Chicago was shut out for the 18th time. He finished with six hits.

At 33-115, the White Sox are closing in on their most losses in a season since 1900 — 120 by the New York Mets in 1962, their debut season.

Basso (1-0) struck out two and walked one over 5 1/3 innings in his second start and fifth major league appearance. He pitched six scoreless innings in a no-decision against the Detroit Tigers last week in his previous outing.

Zack Gelof had an RBI double and Brent Rooker added an RBI single as the Athletics won for the third time in four games.

Mason Miller allowed a single in the ninth inning but earned his 25th save.

Garrett Crochet (6-12) pitched four innings of one-run ball for Chicago.

For the White Sox, Cubans Bryan Ramos 0-for-3, Luis Robert Jr. 1-for-4, Miguel Vargas 1-for-3. Venezuelan Lenyn Sosa 0-for-4.
