Athletic Bilbao sought and achieved their first away win against UD Las Palmas with a bit of suffering at the end. Ernesto Valverde trusted Ruiz de Galarreta from the start, who was called up for the first time this season. Jauregizar accompanied him and Paredes and De Marcos returned behind. The Lions started the match strongly, looking for spaces up front and putting pressure on Cillessen. It was in the 7th minute when Sancet scored the first goal after a low cross from Iñaki Williams. Shortly afterwards Jauregizar saw his first yellow card for a play on Sandro and the home team could have equalised. The Lions continued to look for the opponent’s goal until a play between the Williams ended with a perfect shot from Nico that went in to make it 0-2.
The second half started in the same way that the first half ended for the red and white team, but UD Las Palmas made a change; Muñoz and Fabio replaced Suárez and Campaña. Athletic was left with 10 players due to an incident in which Jaure was the protagonist after the foul on Sandro, in which Ortiz Arias decided to give the Bermeo native a straight red card. The midfielder will miss the next match against Leganés at least. Carrión’s team took off with their numerical superiority and Sandro reduced the gap in the 59th minute. They had to suffer in the last half hour. Both teams showed intensity but little success, and Valverde made the first changes 20 minutes from the end, Sancet and Nico Williams left to make way for Berenguer and Unai Gómez.
The ‘little bull’ came on and performed. After a perfect cross Paredes scored the 1-3 for the red and whites. The last change was Gorosabel for De Marcos, the second game in which the signing of this summer participated. With 8 minutes left Alex Muñoz again reduced the deficit to make it 2-3, Agirrezabala came on but could not clear, the score was again equal (2-3). The last few minutes of the match were full of pressure and suffering, but the cods of Sancet, Nico and Paredes were key to collecting the 7 points they have in the locker. The next match, on Thursday 19 September at the Municipal Stadium of Butarque against Leganés.
