Athletic Bilbao manager Ernesto Valverde praised the work of Mexican goalkeeper Alex Padilla, who made his LaLiga debut on Thursday in a match against Getafe.
Valverde pointed out that Padilla even saved the Basque team from a “sure goal”, which would possibly have meant a different fate than that seen in the 1-1 draw at San Mamés.
“He saved us from a clear goal and he was very sober,” said Valverde when asked about the goalkeeper who was born in Spain but has Mexican ancestry and has in fact chosen to represent Mexico in the minor national teams.
“Padilla had a great game, he had a lot of responsibility, in the end he is the goalkeeper of Athletic, we know what it means to be the goalkeeper of Athletic, on the day of his debut, here in San Mamés, he responded very well,” said Ernesto Valverde in turn regarding the work of the Mexican.
Alex Padilla was unable to prevent Chrisantus Uche’s goal in the second half that sealed the 1-1 tie, but he had previously rescued a goal in a one-on-one, so he took advantage of his opportunity in the face of injuries that the ‘Lions’ suffer in goal.
