Mexico City. The organizers of the Mexico City International Marathon have presented the elite athletes who will be present at the 41st edition of the race, which will take place on August 25.
One of the stars will be Leonard Langart, who took second place in the 2023 edition. The Kenyan arrives at the International Marathon after winning the Berlin Marathon last year with a time of 2:07.49 hours.
His compatriot Edwin Kiptoo, who came first in the 2022 edition and was third in Seoul in 2024, will also be competing. Ethiopia will be represented by Derseh Kindie, who has a time of 2:05.51.
In the women’s category, the athlete with the best time will be Fancy Chemutai from Kenya, winner of gold in Valencia with 2:18.11. Janet Ruguru will also be seeking victory.
Eloy Sánchez will be the Mexican with the best time. The long-distance runner has a time of 2:14.51 hours. In the women’s category, the participation of Olympic athlete Brenda Flores stands out. After becoming Pan American champion in the 10,000 meters in 2015, she decided to try her hand at long-distance events.
With one week to go until the Marathon, only the details are left to be finalized before everything is ready.

“We have already had meetings with government institutions that will support us, such as civil protection, the Ministry of Health, transportation, municipalities where the Marathon will take place, and security personnel,” explained Julio Pérez, head of the Mexico City Sports Institute.
The marathon will bring profits to businesses along the route, as well as restaurants and hotels.
“It represents a great economic benefit because the runners do not come alone but with their families. It is an important sporting event for many sectors.”
So far, Pérez reported, 28,600 runners have registered.
