Fencer Irina Embrich, former sumo wrestler Kaido Höövelson and judo coach Dmitri Budõlin support Mihhail Kõlvart as the chairman of the Center Party, who would be able to develop the country’s sports system as an athlete and coach.
They note in the appeal that the pivotal times require perseverance and decisiveness. “Over the years, the state has significantly reduced funding for sports activities, which also inhibits the development of the field. As of next year, the all-Estonian recreational sports umbrella organizations will be without state funding, including the Estonian School Sports Association, which last school year offered students activities in 16 different sports. Thus, the availability of sports for many children and young people, the discovery of new talents and their support in the sports journey are deteriorating
to the top,” say the athletes of the Center Party in their appeal.
Athletes from the center party are convinced that Mihhail Kõlvart, who has experience as an athlete and coach, can effectively develop the national sports system from the point of view of both professional and recreational athletes.
“With the aim of raising awareness of sports and a healthy lifestyle, he has initiated the sports morning tradition and program “Sport Kooli” in Tallinn, created an opportunity for young people to participate in free training sessions during the summer. Stands for supporting youth sports and what is necessary for sports
for building an infrastructure that will bring more and more international sports competitions to Tallinn and Estonia to the delight of sports fans,” the address explains.
