Beijing ∙ Athletes from Russia and Belarus have been invited to the Asian Games in China this year.
Organizers, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), have announced that they will be allowed to compete in the Games starting in the last week of September. The Asian Games is also a major qualifier for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Athletes from Russia and Belarus are currently banned from Olympic qualifiers held in various European countries. In this case, OCA said that the aim is to help the athletes to qualify for the Olympics.
Russia and Belarus face bans from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) following their invasion of Ukraine. Neither country can participate in the 2024 Olympics. But the IOC announced the other day that Russia and Belarus will compete as independent athletes under the Olympic flag.
