Former German athlete Tim Lobinger, who became famous for his pole vaulting feats, he died at the age of 50 for cancer. The German newspaper Rheinische Post reported on this with reference to the athlete’s close surroundings.

“Tim Lobinger died on February 16 in Munich after a serious illness at the age of 50. The former pole vaulting legend fell into a peaceful sleep surrounded by her loved ones. He didn’t lose his fight, but he won it his way. In the interest of the family, please refrain from further media inquiries,” Lobinger’s family said in a statement. The athlete left behind three children and one grandchild.

Lobinger was diagnosed with leukemia in 2017. Thanks to treatment with the help of stem cells, the athlete got rid of it. But in March 2022, the disease returned.

In October 2022, Lobinger then announced that there was no medicine that would help him recover. “My cancer is too aggressive,” the athlete told Bild daily. In February of this year, doctors informed him that he would soon die, the magazine recalls Spiegel.

Tim Lobinger has been one of the best German pole vaulters since the late 1990s. In 1998, he became the European champion at the indoor races in Valencia. In 2003, he became world champion in Birmingham.

In the summer of 2012, Lobinger started working as an athletic trainer for the then second division football team RB Leipzig.
