/ world today news/ A final list of reforms that Greece agrees to implement will be presented to Brussels on Tuesday morning and will include all social payments and structural reforms, a government source said.
Athens sent its version of a roadmap to be discussed in Brussels by midnight, although a final decision is expected after a teleconference of eurozone finance ministers tomorrow. From this detailed discussion of Athens’ proposals depends whether the financial assistance to the country will be continued, the government source said in a statement.
This slight delay will not disrupt the teleconference discussion, the source said. The list that Athens will send includes all of Syriza’s pre-election promises regarding social emergency measures to help the most vulnerable sections of the population, the source said, without commenting on what their price would be.
These measures include the provision of free electricity to 300,000 needy families, the distribution of food and transport coupons to the needy, and specific financial assistance for pensioners with the lowest pensions. Other proposals that may become the occasion for a more serious debate with Greece’s creditors are, for example, the blocking of the seizure of a primary residence and other measures in the event of delay in the payment of taxes and bank loans, as well as forgiving part of the amounts due.
The structural reforms to be presented by Athens include a fight against the smuggling of gasoline and cigarettes, from which the Greek state can collect 1.5 billion euros and 800 million euros, respectively. The cabinet plans to collect 2.5 billion euros from taxes on large property and the property of the oligarchs.
“In general, the authorities hope to bring 7.3 billion euros into the budget from the reforms,” the source noted. On Friday, the finance ministers of the Eurozone decided to extend by 4 months the credit program for Greece, which ends at the end of the month. After that, the conclusion of a new financing agreement with Greece is foreseen, which will also include debt restructuring. At the same time, Greece pledged to make reforms that had to be presented by the end of today. /AFP
