Athens University of Economics and Business: “20 years ahead” – 2024-03-10 10:50:38

The Graduate Program in Human Resources Management of the Athens University of Economics and Business, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of its establishment, organized the event “20 years ahead“, on Friday, March 01, at the Athens Conservatory.

570 invited guests, the Chancellor’s Authorities of the Athens University of Economics and Business, teaching and administrative staff of the University, graduates, students and executives of companies and organizations that serve the field of HR, were “present” to celebrate 20 years of successful operation and continuous development of the Program!

The Interdepartmental Graduate Program in Human Resource Management (HRM) of the Athens University of Economics and Business (OPA), was founded in 2003 by the Department of Marketing and Communication and the Department of Administrative Science and Technology. Since then, more than 1,800 of its graduates are deservingly staffing companies and organizations in Greece and abroad, creating an active HR community! After all, according to the recent Graduate Career Rehabilitation Survey, 9 out of 10 Full-Time graduates find significant work in their field within a semester!

The hosts of the event were the Archaeostoryteller, Dr. Theodoros Papakostasand the Director of the Program, Professor Maria Vakola.

The Archaeostoryteller harmoniously married archeology and human rights and shared with the audience stories from antiquity such as Plato, Ptolemy I, Paramon Antigonus, the king of Pergamum Attalus II, Hermes of Attarneas and others. aptly prefacing the sections of the event.

In the packed auditorium, the Director of the Program, Professor Maria Vakola welcomed the audience to the start of the event. He recalled the distinctions of the Program such as the recent assessment as 8th in Western Europe, in the “Human Resources Management” category in the list of TOP 60 2022/2023 Eduniversal Best Masters Ranking and the confidence of businesses in the quality of the studies it offers and the choice of of his graduates. As he pointed out, the compass of the Program is “the well-being of Man”.

The Rector of OPA, Professor, addressed a greeting Dimitris Burantonis, who, as he noted, “… the establishment of the Program certified the timeless commitment of our University to listen to the needs of society and the market and to innovate by offering education, research and the economy to the country as well! And this is because it came to cover this essential need to have qualified executives, who will guide the human resources of the organizations, and will ensure the well-being of the people! … “.

Afterwards, the audience watched the anniversary video of the Program with emotion. This was followed by a look back at the history of the Program and a discussion on the future of the IAS, with the participants of the founders of the Program, Emeritus Professor Nancy Papalexandri and Professor Dimitris Bourandas, the former Director, Professor Ioannis Nikolaou, and Director Professor Maria Vakola. As Mr. Buradas pointed out “…HR must not only adapt to changes, but also create the changes”.

The pivotal role of the HR Society Alumni Association, which represents 1,800 graduates, for the creation of an active community and the close relationship with the Program was underlined by the President, Mrs. Maria Savvaki, Payroll Area Lead SCE, Mondelez International at Mondelez International.
