Atanas Atanasov promised the president impeachment in the new parliament

The co-chairman of “Democratic Bulgaria” Atanas Atanasov will begin talks on the impeachment of President Rumen Radev in the next parliament. The reason – the statement of the head of state in Brussels that Bulgaria should no longer help Ukraine with weapons, despite the decision of the parliament, but also his idea that our country impose a veto if the EC decides to impose new sanctions on Russia in the field of nuclear energy .

Radev is now explaining in Brussels how he would have imposed the veto, who brought us to this situation where we are tied with both feet to Russia? The subject of nuclear energy is complex, it is possible that we as a country are in a position to really depend on Russia, I am not an expert. But I was impressed by something else that Mr. President said – whether there is no reason to seek his impeachment, I will work in the next parliament to clarify this, Atanasov told BNT.

And when asked to clarify whether he would really open the topic of impeachment of the president, he said: Ma, of course. And I’ll tell you why – one (from Radev’s remarks – note ed.) was for nuclear energy, and on the other hand, the National Assembly with 173 votes decided to provide military-technical assistance to Ukraine in the war with Russia, and the president has now come out and said that the government appointed by him must stop this activity.

I have consulted today, but here there is a reason to discuss whether the constitution is not being violated by placing Mr. President and his caretaker government above the parliament. The highest body of state power is the National Assembly, he insisted.

Just a month ago, you had the opportunity for Radev not to govern, DB was faced with a very simple question – are you ready to govern with GERB and DPS?, Toma Bikov from GERB answered him.

By solving the problems with corruption…, Atanasov said.

I have no problem with corruption, Bykov interrupted.

The judicial system is an umbrella over your political power, Atanasov replied.

Why didn’t you decide this in the previous parliament? Because Kiril Petkov did not want to vote. If you had made a reform with your partners from BSP and PP. You didn’t have a majority, said Bykov.

After that, the two argued about who was in the hall and who wasn’t.

Judicial reform requires a change in the constitution, this requires a qualified majority and we will introduce it in the next parliament, Atanasov vowed.

Asked what he thought about the new sanctions that the US imposed under the Magnitsky Act, Atanasov said: This is about circumstances that are known to the entire Bulgarian public. Goranov’s relationship with Bozhkov, about the bags of money, etc., were known for a long time. During Borisov’s rule, the Bulgarian institutions were put to sleep so as not to look into the management of GERB. This crisis can be resolved if at some point the USA imposes sanctions on Borisov, because he cannot have not known what Goranov was doing as a minister.

Perhaps it is not known that Rumen Ovcharov and the heads of the Kozloduy NPP were advancing Russian interests, he added.

We have a decision to jointly contest the upcoming elections with the PP. There is no parliament because it cannot produce a majority and a government. The responsibility for the failure of the previous parliament lies with the first political force, he insisted. Atanasov explained that there will be common lists in the regions. It was not time to think narrowly and selfishly, he added.

It is imperative to have a massive political force with democratic underpinnings. We agreed to participate in the parliamentary elections, paving the way to the local elections, said Atanasov.

He emphasized that many unsolved problems “hang from everywhere”. And he gave an example: There is a big umbrella that keeps Geshev over the corruption that was during the management of GERB.

Our main effort will be to free the business from the racket. Bulgarian business is suffocated by these corruption schemes, there are no foreign investors, he pointed out.
