On hot days, a glass of water should be drunk every 15-20 minutes, even if we do not feel thirsty. Alcohol should also be avoided, including beer, as it promotes dehydration. During the day it is good to take warm showers, without wiping off the water, and if we have air conditioning, the appliance must be adjusted so that the temperature is 5 degrees lower than the ambient temperature.
The Ministry of Health has made a series of recommendations for the population for the hot days.
–
1. During hot weather it is recommended to consume fluids daily (between 1.5 – 2 liters of fluids), without waiting for the feeling of thirst. A glass of water (or its equivalent) is required every 15 to 20 minutes.
2. Doctors advise us to eat as many fresh fruits and vegetables every day (melon, red, plums, cucumbers, tomatoes) because they contain a large amount of water. A dose of yogurt produces the same hydration as a glass of water.
3. Alcohol (including beer or wine) should not be consumed as it promotes dehydration and decreases the body’s ability to fight heat. It is mandatory to avoid drinks high in caffeine (coffee, tea, cola) or sugar (carbonated soft drinks) because they are diuretics.
