They self-proclaimed the “college-less”. Nearly two months after the start of the academic year, around sixty students still have no assignments. Since last Wednesday, they occupy the presidency building from the University of Nanterre in the hope of an answer.
“Studying is a right, not a privilege!” On the facade of the building, a banner is hung and every day at noon lThe occupants go to the window with megaphone in hand. At the foot of the building, a few students and unions came to support them. Support them but not join them because since the beginning of the occupation security guards prohibit access.
Inside, young people organize themselves with means at hand. Joraï Brandao, 20, is a student and member of UNEF: “We have a few mattresses, we also have a few coats to cover ourselves because there is a window that never closes. France is the fifth world power, students have to sleep on the floor at the university to be able to have a square !”

And what worries the students is that time flies: more than 7 weeks since the start of the school year university. Roxane Ladhib, 19, is awaiting registration for a master’s degree: “It’s quite stressful because we tell ourselves that we missed a lot of lessons! We will have to make up for everything (…) if we are registered a week before the exams, we will have to spend the exams at the same title than those that started in September. ”
The student has the impression that this occupation disturbs those in charge of the University : “We have the impression of putting a lot of pressure on them, of stressing them since when we started the occupation last Wednesday, we received an email on Thursday stating that no negotiations will be accepted as long as there is occupation. the next day, when we posted videos on Twitter, reposted a number of times, we saw another email from the president at 9 am telling us that he was supposedly concerned about our condition. “
But for the young girl, this change in behavior is just a question of image : “We are very angry and we will not be fooled. If the president of the University was on our side, he was doing more than false speeches and false hypocritical words.”
The students assure that the occupation will last as long as they have not obtained their registration.
