At the University of Créteil, students refuse to take their partials face-to-face

The students in the second year of the eco-management license have launched a petition not to take their exams in an amphitheater.

“The vital prognosis of my year is engaged.” While the Covid-19 still forces an overwhelming majority of students to follow their courses at a distance, the University of Paris-Est Créteil (Upec) organized the exams of the first semester for the students of license 2 of eco-management in face-to-face. As of Monday, January 4, the students had an appointment to take their exams in the amphitheater. The maintenance of the partial on the benches of the university did not please many of them. Last week they launched a petition to request remote examinations. So far, 252 signatures have been collected.

“A dangerous action for the health of all”

“The health crisis is far from over and is starting up again with the end of year celebrations and the arrival of a new strain of covid is only making things worse. Doing the exams face-to-face taking into account the current situation is a dangerous action for everyone’s health, write the students first in the open letter to their university.

For them, it is not conceivable to bring together so many people in one place just three days after the holiday season. They fear the formation of a large cluster. “The risk of contamination is also extremely high for students who have to make long journeys during rush hour to get to college”, they add.

For signatories, take their exams in an auditorium “Is not appropriate” to the current health situation. The latter “Getting worse, we refuse to take the risk of harming our health or the health of others by carrying out face-to-face exams. We therefore demand that these be carried out remotely as many other faculties do and as we have done for all this time for other exams ”, they conclude.

According to information from Parisian , the 300 students invited to the University of Créteil were contacted by email three days before the first exams by those responsible for their training. The latter would have ensured respect for social distancing in the examination rooms and confirmed again that the exams would indeed take place in person, as planned.
