At the tripartite meeting held in the Seimas, representatives of the parliamentary delegations of Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine agreed on a common way to solve today’s challenges in the field of agriculture

of the Rural Affairs and Economic Committees of the Seimas. m. April 5 At the tripartite meeting of parliamentary delegations of Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine and representatives of agricultural organizations held in the Seimas, representatives of the delegations unanimously agreed that the import of agricultural products of Russian and Belarusian origin into the territory of the European Union should be banned.

In a joint declaration, the participants of the meeting call on the EU institutions and member states to consider banning the transit of agricultural products of Russian and Belarusian origin through the territory of the European Union, using products supplied by Ukrainian agricultural entities to regulate the flow of agricultural products.

The declaration calls for consideration of the possibility of applying a system of interventional grain purchases to the excess amount of grain in the event of unfavorable prices on the market, thereby supporting the price of grain, ensuring the income of grain growers and contributing to the implementation of the goals of the World Food Program.

The parties to the meeting also unanimously agreed on the declaration’s aim to help Ukraine restore its former markets, and with recent doubts about unfair trade practices between the countries, it was agreed to make all possible efforts to control possible unfair trade in the future.

Representatives of the delegations emphasized that Russia cannot be allowed to destabilize the European Union market by using the grain crisis on the border of Ukraine. According to Viktoras Pranckietis, chairman of the Rural Affairs Committee of the Seimas, the farmers of Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine are brothers, therefore, despite the protest of Polish farmers at the border, it is important to hear the arguments of all sides and seek common solutions not only between the countries, but also at the EU level.

The meeting was attended by the chairmen of the land-related committees of the Lithuanian, Polish and Ukrainian parliaments and the Seimas Economic Committee, the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Lithuania, the Deputy Ministers of Agriculture of Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine, representatives of agricultural organizations. Representatives of the delegations generally agreed that such meetings in the format of the Lublin Triangle are very valuable and could continue in the future.
