The Klinikverbund Südwest is setting up a new center for hematological neoplasms at the Sindelfingen location. Serious blood disorders are treated there.

Sindelfingen – The Medical Clinic I – Hematology and Oncology at the Sindelfingen-Böblingen Clinic under the direction of Priv.-Doz. Dr. Markus Ritter has been a specialist clinic for the entire spectrum of blood diseases (hematology) and tumor diseases for over a decade. This includes the treatment of leukemia and lymphoma as well as all malignant tumor diseases.

However, since blood was not understood as an organ, certification according to the rules of the German Cancer Society has not been possible until now; this only certifies organ centers. That has now changed, blood is now often understood as a liquid organ. Sindelfingen Hematology is now certified as an organ center. A new haematological center can thus be set up. This is announced by the Südwest Clinic Association in a press release.

Each tumor requires individual treatment

Two to three people in 100,000 develop hematological neoplasia. Hematology is playing a pioneering role in the treatment of blood cancer. In contrast to cancers of organs such as the intestine or lungs, the cancer cannot be eliminated by surgery; so-called conservative, highly complicated but successful treatment methods have to be developed. For example, if chronic leukemia used to be fatal within three years, patients now have a life perspective of another ten or more years. The other specialist disciplines also benefit from this skill in hematology.

Markus Ritter, chief physician of hematology in Sindelfingen and head of the center, says: “In the past, the attending physician decided solely on the form of therapy, today a group of ten experts usually comes together and discusses each individual case. This is important because every person is unique, and so is every tumor. Every patient needs an individual therapy for their cancer. ”
