It has already been reported that on August 4, the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) initiated a criminal prosecution against Kalnmeier and the Chief Prosecutor of the Methodology Division of the General Prosecutor’s Office for Elijah Jurkjanis. The current Prosecutor General Juris Stukāns has made a decision to suspend the Chief Prosecutor from office.

Within ten days in accordance with the procedures prescribed by law, the prosecutor of the Investigation Division of Critical Cases must decide on the criminal prosecution of persons. However, the law provides for the possibility for the prosecutor’s office to make a decision on the termination of a criminal case or to send the case back to the KNAB with instructions on the need for additional investigation.

Leja did not disclose the name of the prosecutor supervising the case at this time, so as not to prevent the official from making an objective decision. He assumed that after the decision was made, the prosecutor would have to explain his decision, then his name would become public.

Unofficial information at the disposal of Latvian Television shows that KNAB Kalnmeieru is being prosecuted in connection with a leak in a criminal case involving Jelgava Prosecutor Zinaīda Egle, in which KNAB is investigating the organization of bribery, bribery and disclosure of undisclosed information.
