Failing to announce a new containment, Jean Castex indicated Friday evening the closure of non-food shopping centers of more than 20,000 m² from Sunday. A measure that still lacks clarity for the director of the Polygone de Montpellier.

This Saturday afternoon, the aisles of the Polygone in Montpellier were packed. Consumers came to enjoy a final shopping spree before the establishment closed at 6 p.m.
Jean Castex announced Friday that shopping centers over 20,000 m², apart from food stores, should lower the curtain on Sunday. According to the Prime Minister, these places “promote the most brewing” and are therefore conducive to the circulation of Covid-19.

A meeting was held this Saturday at 11 am in Bercy with the trade federations to try to define more clearly the contours of the measure. An official decree is due to be published on Sunday.
A few hours before closing, the total blur
Roger Naro is the director of the Polygone in Montpellier. At the start of the afternoon, he recognizes it: he remains in the dark, but intends to play the game well. He will ask non-food businesses to close on Saturday evening, although the decree has not yet been published.
As of this Sunday, non-food shopping centers with a surface area of over 20,000 square meters, which most favor the mixing of populations, will be closed. pic.twitter.com/Laxt0VGK4a
“Even if it is not explicit, we understand the difference between food and non-food businesses!”, he quips.
However, Roger Naro does not yet know if the pharmacy, located at the entrance of the shopping center, will be able to accommodate the public. But he confirms that the passage between Place de la Comédie and the Antigone district, which crosses the Polygone, will remain open.

Break during the sales
The winter sales began on January 20. Traders were counting on this period to replenish their finances after a very difficult 2020. But this third closure thwarts their plans.
It is all the sadder since we communicated a lot about this exceptional second Sunday of sales. It was a question of trying to regain market share. But health before all !
Roger Naro, director of Polygone Montpellier.
The Polygone Montpellier houses 110 stores and 6,000 people work there every day. “The ‘whatever the cost’ [prêts garantis par l’État, fonds de solidarité, chômage partiel] will of course apply for all employees and companies concerned “, assured the Prime Minister.
