On Friday evening, the result of the repeated samples taken from the herds in Velingrad will be clear
At the end of work Friday, this week, the samples taken again today for testing of plague on small ruminants from the 5 herds in Velingrad, will be processed and with a clear result. On Saturday, according to European regulation, the sheep will be euthanized. This was stated by the chief veterinarian Assoc. Dr. Iliyan Kostov tonight in front of Nova TV.
He explained that there was little chance that the samples would be negative this time, and resented the suspicions that the original ones had been taken incompetently or sloppily or maliciously. He stated that the first tests were analyzed by two methods and both confirmed the presence of the infection.
The goal of the BABH is to quickly eliminate the plague outbreak in Velingrad before the virus, which is spread by contact, spreads to other parts of the country, Dr. Kostov said. At the moment, these fears are real, as their colleagues from all over Bulgaria have come to support the affected sheep farmers, who may become unwitting carriers of the disease.
“We are playing with fire right now,” he commented on the situation.
The chief veterinarian said there was no similar European practice of double-testing animals that were initially infected. In this case, this decision was made to reassure the farmers.
Iliyan Kostov said that our country still cannot export dairy products to some countries because of what was established in 2018. outbreak on a farm in Yambolsko, which remained untreated. According to his information, Serbia seems to have already banned the import of products of animal origin from our country.
