Beni. Suspected Islamist rebels killed a minimum of 17 individuals in an assault on civilians working in fields in japanese Democratic Republic of Congo on Tuesday, a neighborhood official and a hospital employee mentioned.
The assault focused residents of the city of Oicha in Congo’s North Kivu province, a mineral-rich space that has been affected by militia violence within the aftermath of a civil conflict that ended on the flip of the century.
The victims had been working in fields about 20 kilometers west of town.
Oicha Mayor Nicolas Kikuku on Wednesday blamed members of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), an Islamic State-linked group originating in neighbouring Uganda that now operates in japanese Congo and regularly assaults civilians.
As of Wednesday night, 17 our bodies had been transported by motorcycle to the morgue at Oicha Normal Hospital, Kikuku mentioned.
