There was bright sunshine at the traditional Hubertus festival in the small hamlet of Fährbrück (district of Würzburg). After a two-year Corona break, many of the currently 2967 members throughout Lower Franconia were looking forward to their “main festival”. Around 350 Hubertus brothers from the 84 local groups in the districts of Würzburg, Kitzingen, Schweinfurt, Main-Spessart, Bad Kissingen and Haßberge came together in their Fährbrücker center.
At the end of April this year, the board was re-elected and a modern statute was adopted. The former Würzburg District Administrator Eberhard Nuß from Uettingen became the first chairman. He is assisted by his deputies Norbert Hart from Oberwerrn and member of the state parliament Manfred Ländner from Kürnach as well as treasurer Norbert Wendel from Hausen and secretary Jürgen Wolf from Waigolshausen.
Bruno Strobel appointed honorary chairman
Chairman Altlandrat Nuß introduced the new management team to the Hubertus brothers and asked them to vote on whether the previous chairman, Bruno Strobel, should be appointed honorary chairman. Hands went up in agreement, of course. Bruno Strobel was on the board for 20 years, first as an advisor and from 2008 as successor to Josef Hell from Opferbaum for 14 years as first chairman.

The current honorary chairman Strobel carried out his office “with great care, a great deal of commitment and personal passion”, praised his successor Nuss. He thanked him for the “precious work and the great commitment” and awarded Strobel the golden badge of honor of the brotherhood “Catholic Men’s Association St. Hubertus, Fährbrück”. Bruno Strobel found words of thanks for the nice and successful time as a board member of the main association.

The Brotherhood’s Badge of Honor in Gold was also awarded to Bruno Hertlein from Oberpleichfeld. He has been the chairman of his local association for 44 years since 1978. He was also a member of the board of the main association for twelve years as an assessor and from 1996 to 2008 as third chairman. He is still its reliable standard bearer.
Wilhelm Issing is considered a tireless veteran of the Hubertus brothers
Wilhelm Issing was awarded the Silver Badge of Honor of the Brotherhood. The Erbshausener is considered a tireless veteran of the Hubertus brothers. From 1996 to 2002 he was on the advisory board, then secretary and from 2008 until the election in April this year third chairman. “It was an entertaining time, I enjoyed the work and many friendships were formed,” said the honoree.
Werner Volkmuth from Wipfeld left the board with many thanks, good wishes and a gift. From 2014 to 2022 he was secretary of the Hubertus Association in Fährbrück.
The St. Hubertus Catholic Men’s Association is one of the few existing men’s associations. Since the new statutes were passed two months ago, not only Catholic men have been accepted, but all men who have a Christian faith and want to promote the aims and purposes of the association.
The Hubertus brothers undertake to take on “responsibility in the world”.
The Christian faith remains a mainstay of the men’s association with its patron saint St. Hubertus, which is deeply rooted in the Franconian homeland. According to the statutes, the Hubertus brothers undertake to take on “responsibility in the world”. You want to be traditional and innovative at the same time.
At the Hubertus Festival, Auxiliary Bishop Ulrich Boom celebrated the ceremonial office in the pilgrimage church in Fährbrück and gave the celebratory sermon, in which he asked for the intercession of the Blessed Mother. Jürgen Bode, the deputy general manager of the IHK Würzburg-Schweinfurt, was the speaker at the rally in the garden of the Hubertushof. The topic of his ceremonial address was: “The strong Main Franconian medium-sized companies face great challenges”.
