Minister of Foreign Affairs (Minister of Foreign Affairs) of Russia Sergei Lavrov say the terms Ukraine restarting negotiations with Moscow is “unrealistic”. This was passed on to reporters at G20 summit in Bali, where pressure is mounting on Russia to end the conflict.
“All issues are on the side of Ukraine, which categorically refuses negotiations and puts forward clearly unrealistic conditions,” Lavrov told reporters, as reported by news agencies. AFP extensionTuesday (15/11/2022).
Lavrov said he communicated this during a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, and that he clarified his position Russia during talks with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
Previously, the offices Russia and Ukraine had held several rounds of negotiations during the conflict’s initial stages – including a meeting hosted by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan – that ended without a deal to end the fighting.
Along with the United Nations and Turkey, Russia and Ukraine signed a deal this summer to unblock several Ukrainian ports allowing the export of grain from one of the world’s top producers.
However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said Kiev cannot hold peace talks with Moscow while Russian President Vladimir Putin is still in power.
“Scholz and Macron are well aware that this process is hampered by Ukrainewhich, including through legislation, by decree of Zelensky, prohibits negotiations with the Russian Federation,” said Lavrov.
