The long-awaited first festival of cultural experiences for young people “From ART’ist to Me(n)talist” opened in Alytus! This is also the first event of this scale for the Alytus Jurgis Kunčinas public library, which has been actively preparing for this bustling event for several months: from the presentation of the “Reader’s Passport” to schoolchildren to the preparation of the final program.
The library director Vida Grišmanauskienė welcomed the people gathered in large numbers in the spaces of our festival partners Alytus Cultural Center: “I am happy to see so many young curious faces who came here today from different schools of the city and district of Alytus”, and emphasized that it is very important to offer students creative education and ways of spending free time, and educational activities with famous artists and representatives of the literary field are not only a great help for teachers, but also a non-traditional, engaging way to supplement the knowledge and experience of students.
Nice words were spared not only by the teachers, who were surprised by the cozily filled spaces and the abundance of free activities, but also by the educators themselves, who pointed out that the festival program is full of interesting activities: from boldly and creative writing workshops to theatrical improvisations and virtual reality. We are glad to have already received feedback! “It’s a unique experience to create a script based on visuals and experience right here. We dived with all our thoughts into philosophical reflections on the strengths of the temporality of human existence, together we created a unified atmosphere of knowledge based on hearing each other” – this is how one of the participants responded to the Vytautas V. Landsbergis film script development workshop. Others said that the festival exceeded their expectations and asked them to make sure not to “miss” this event and, in general, the more such activities for young people, the better!
As many as eleven different educations and a discussion took place during the festival, in which rapper Pijus Opera and comedian Evaldas Jasaitis spoke about the joys and worries of today’s youth.
The event was crowned by a live performance by Pijus Opera and his colleague Jakūbs, which included everyone present – rap was born right during the concert, as the talented performer created the lyrics directly from the items offered by the audience. A total of over 400 people attended the festival!
We sincerely thank everyone and hasten to announce the good news – several educations “didn’t fit” into the festival program, so stay tuned to find out where the next cultural action will take place!
The project is financed Lithuanian Council of Culture and Alytus city municipality.
